Wednesday, February 14 - Loches, Saint-Denis International School - Day 3 - Le marché de Loches

Happy Valentine's Day from France! Today, after driving or walking to school from our home stays, we started off our morning by attending more classes at St. Denis. Afterwards, we headed to a street market in Loches and explored the market, posing questions to vendors and customers and then enjoying a drink at a local café. Some of us stayed at St. Denis for an afternoon cooking class, but we left at noon to explore Loches more, heading to a chocolatier for some sweet treats and then a nearby store to see what we could find. At 5 P.M., everyone returned back to their homestay families to enjoy the evening together.






Additional note from somebody who was at the cooking class: 14 of us stayed on campus at Saint-Denis for it but there was only space for 8 to participate. The people who participated made small chocolate cakes with a chef from the school, and everyone who was there ate at least one (or so I assume).

Une autre note de quelqu’un qui a assisté à la classe de la cuisine : 14 élèves de Harker restaient à Saint-Denis et 8 ont participé dans la classe. Ceux qui ont participé ont fait des  petits gâteaux au chocolat et j’espère qu’il y avait assez de gâteaux pour tous les élèves qui étaient là.

Joyeuse St. Valentin! Aujourd'hui, nous avons fait plein de choses. D'abord, nous avons attendu quelques classes à St. Denis. Après, nous sommes partis pour explorer un marché à Loches avec beaucoup de nourriture, de vêtements et de cadeaux. Nous avons posé des questions et nous avons pris des boissons. À midi, nous sommes rentrées avec notre famille pour le déjeuner. Nous avons visité un chocolatier et un magasin, et j'ai acheté des cadeaux pour ma famille. Le soir, tout le monde est rentré pour une bonne nuit.

 Today was Audrey's birthday, which we celebrated with her over breakfast - Happy Birthday Audrey! After breakfast, we left the hotel and drove to Saint-Denis International School. We were welcomed by students and split into smaller groups to tour the school. Following the tour, we went with the French students to two classes.  After lunch at St. Denis, we gathered as a group to explore Loches and visit its famous donjon and royal city. It was fun to imagine life in the Medieval times thanks to a tablet with augmented reality. We climbed up and down lots of stairs and saw beautiful views of the city. After walking back to the school, we were all picked up by our host families, who were welcoming and enthusiastic! Tonight we stayed our first night at our homestays! Saturday, February 10 - Granville, Normandy: Carnival Day

Fantastic carnival day in Granville with unexpected beautiful weather! We were fully in the ambiance of the carnival after making fun hats and joining the family-friendly kids' parade. Students had a great meeting with young local people and learning about WW2 history in Normandy. More details and photos to come as soon we have better internet connection.

Saturday, February 17 - Paris - Day 2 - Quartier Latin, Notre-Dame, Comédie française

Beautiful sunny day in Paris, with a lot of walking and discoveries!  En français : A ujourd’hui, on a commencé le jour par visiter l’église de Saint-Germain, avec les peintures et fenêtres incroyables qui couvrir tous les murs. Après, on est allé au Jardin du Luxembourg, et on a découvrir la vie parisienne qui inclut des sentiments de ne rien faire et profite de la vie pendent les temps libres. Ensuite, on a déjeuné a la célèbre rue Mouffetard, un quartier avec tellement la culture riche qui concerne les littéraires célèbres comme Victor Hugo. On an explorer la rive gauche de Paris, un lieux intellectuel avec plein d’écrivains comme James Joyce et Ernest Hemingway qui y a habité et appréciation pour l’art. On a le chance de finir le jour par voir un pièce de théâtre de Molière, Les Fourberies de Scapin, qui était tellement amusant. Divya
