Saturday, February 10 - Granville, Normandy: Carnival Day

Fantastic carnival day in Granville with unexpected beautiful weather! We were fully in the ambiance of the carnival after making fun hats and joining the family-friendly kids' parade. Students had a great meeting with young local people and learning about WW2 history in Normandy. More details and photos to come as soon we have better internet connection.

Tuesday, February 13 - Loches, Saint-Denis International School - Day 2 - Chenonceau & Mardi Gras

Today we spent our morning at St. Denis International School attending one period (45 min) of classes.  Then, we visited the Chenonceau castle, one of the most beautiful castles in the Loire Valley. We were given a guided tour of its interior, where we learned about its rich history spanning several centuries, and we also had time to explore the castles ourselves. We had a picnic lunch at the jardin (garden) de Diane de Poitiers, and then we freely explored the castle and its surrounding gardens ourselves. After our visit to the Chenonceau castle, we went back to St. Denis International School to celebrate Mardi Gras (Feb. 13, 2024), where we watched and participated in their parade while eating crepes. Sunday, February 11 - Le Mont Saint-Michel, Normandy - Villandry, Loire Valley (in English)

Welcome to our blog of day 3 of our French voyage!   Today morning, we left Granville for Mont St. Michel. We woke up, packed up our suitcases, and cleaned our rooms. The view outside each room is stunning, with a direct view of both the ocean and the Carnival. Although there is definitely a lot of noise from the Carnival at night, it adds to the exciting and special ambience of Granville.  We rode the bus for about 45 minutes to reach Mont St. Michel. Our bus has wide windows, so we could see the beautiful views of the countryside. The green pastures, adorable sheep, and rain in the morning together made for a spectacular view.  Once we reached near Mont St. Michel, we took out our umbrellas and ponchos, as it was extremely windy, and it was raining, as well. Although it was certainly challenging walking against the wind, it proved to be an awesome adventure.  We rode a shuttle to reach Mont St. Michel itself, and there, we met our guide, Gael, who is from Brittany....
